WHY DID WE DESIGN A TANK TOP WITH PILLS ALL OVER IT FOR A EDM MUSIC FESTIVAL?

We have been going to EDM festivals and raves for over a decade and have noticed that the scene has become more and more about the drugs and “getting high” than the music itself. The state of the “scene” has become a bit ridiculous. In the past years our direct group of friends, friends of friends, and we ourselves have suffered many losses directly associated with the use of drugs. We were getting fed up and we decided we would design a shirt touching on the subject of drug use at electronic music festivals. We met with the organizers of the festival and after telling them about our idea they agreed as much as it would be looked upon negatively the long term positive effects from the release would benefit the cause. The only voice we have is our art and what good would it be to release a typical “don’t do drugs” shirt? That saying is overused to the point that teenagers do the opposite of just that. The drugs are already there and have been for a while now. Releasing a shirt with pills on it is not going to make more drug dealers want to deal drugs at electronic music festivals or make more people participate in the use of drugs because that already exists. Festivals do everything in their power to prevent the circulation of drugs but they can’t stop everyone. We need change and if we did something safe everyone would have the same “oh what a great message that is” reaction and no one would think twice and nothing would change. This design is not used as a means to promote drugs, it was just the only way we saw fit to bring awareness and evoke conversation on the topic of drug use at electronic music festivals and for parents who would probably never have a conversation with their children about drug use to do so.
